Project title: Caruma Centerpieces
Project details:
Pottery and basketry have walked side by side without really crossing. In this context, Caruma 2020 arises, a series of containers, formed by a mixed technique – earthenware and basketry – that present the relationship between two different techniques. On the one hand, the earthenware with a strong tradition in the specific context in which the project was carried out (Caldas da Rainha, PT), and on the other, the Angolan basketry – from which part of my roots come – particularly the the sewed coiling technique. These two materials create a relationship that is familiar to us: basketry, enduring on the everyday scale, and earthenware that is the historical range. A dialogue is intended in several layers, among which the mixture between the near and the far stands out.
